About Limoges Boxes

These are genuine Limoges boxes made in France with the fine porcelain clay found in Limoges. These are the same boxes that have become so popular as lovely gifts and collector items.

The boxes come to me unpainted, with hinges unattached, and with the Limoges seal verifying their authenticity.  I hand paint each*- using the same techniques of the 18th century artist with color pigments and oils, firing them at very high temperatures. I produce unique paintings, artfully rendered, very often using precious gold and raised paste to enhance the details. It takes many hours and many firings to accomplish a single piece.

I paint many Limoges boxes to order, with customized messages or monograms as well as personally chosen colors and/or semi-precious stones. For one client I painted a suitcase box to depict scenes from an European trip on each and every side of the box-and a separate box for each city. Each piece makes a lovely gift, one of heirloom quality for weddings, parties, anniversaries, graduations, christenings, or holidays.

* Absolutely-NO decals are used(unlike most bought in stores)-using more color and detail than is usually seen in those items featured in shops and catalogs.
